What To Do & Where To Start

What To Do & Where To Start

There is an old cliché that implies that if you want to write, the best way to do that is just to start.  I used to teach my students that THOSE WHO READ, SUCCEED!  I guess the same thing goes for writing. Those who write, get somewhere.  I have read enough articles and books about and by authors who swear by the fact that they just sit down and make it part of their routine to write for so many hours every day.  I guess, then, if I am going to write a book dedicated to and directed at young people interested in becoming teachers, then I had best  just sit down and make a start.  I have already begun in a way, by chasing down books that deal with that topic and I just didn't find too much. I ran across one book written by a well regarded academic and sociologist who maintained that, if school improvement depended upon teachers, then the profession had to direct efforts at enhancing and improving teacher education so that the quality of teaching improved. His book though was not written to the folks entering the profession but rather to those already in the profession and needing to think about the various dimensions of classroom teaching.  Another book was written by a classroom teacher but didn't have any personal referents.  It was far too academic.  I want to write a book filled with anecdotes but directed at helping those trying to become teachers better understand the process.  I can visualize my students sitting back and listening to my stories and then asking questions about my journey and wanting to learn more. That is my inspiration. After almost a year of no recording in my various blogs, I am forcing myself to write because if I am going to accomplish something, that is precisely what I need to do.
